Danish cabinetmaker armchair, likely from the 1860s. The chair has a high, continuous curved backrest and a classic salon chair shape. This type of chair was made for formal interiors and upper-class homes. The style sits between Empire and Biedermeier.

Black lacquered finish with painted gold decoration. Turned legs with brass castors. Cream upholstered seat with a sprung base (coil springs). The chair itself is original; the upholstery is of a later date.

A chair of this model is depicted in P.C. Skovgaard’s watercolor of Christinelund, a Danish country house near Praesto, supporting a mid-19th century Danish origin for the design.
