Art Deco Haagse school chairs in solid mahogany wood attributed to H. Wouda. These early 20th century design chairs come from the modernist period.
The sturdy chairs are in original condition. Only the fabric of the seat has been renewed in a matching dark purple / black fabric.
The Haagse School is the name for a group of designers who mostly lived and worked in The Hague and who mainly focused on interior and furniture design. They represent the business, functional direction in Art Deco. Their furniture and interiors were considered very modern by many in the 1920s and 1930s. The functionality of the furniture is considered more important by the designers of the Hague School than the form. A shape that is characterized by simple, clean contours and linearity.
