The Amsterdam School is a style of architecture that manifested itself between 1910 and 1940 as the opposite of Nieuwe Bouwen (new building), which pursued functionality, purity and simplicity. The Amsterdam School style is characterized by unusual shapes and decorative elements, making this architectural style expressionist.
The Amsterdam School is a bold and dramatic style and therefore very popular with Art Deco enthusiasts.
