A Pair of 4 Art Deco Amsterdam School ‘t Woonhuys Dining Chairs The Netherlands 1930s

A unique Art Deco set of Amsterdam school chairs of high quality craftsmanship from the Netherlands, 1930s. The chairs were designed and made by furniture manufacturer 't Woonhuys from Amsterdam. Detailed chairs with unique shapes in mahogany and oak. The original seats were upholstered with sturdy colorful fabric in the 1950s.

The Amsterdam furniture company 't Woonhuys is closely linked to the origins of the Amsterdam School, a decorative and luxurious style that emerged in the Netherlands around 1915. Until then, 't Woonhuys mainly worked in historicizing styles that were executed by highly qualified craftsmen, using precious materials. The furniture was mainly sold to people with money. The furniture was too expensive for the common man.
Michel de Klerk and Hildo Krop were some of the leading designers with respect for the architecture of the Amsterdam school.

Condition: Very good. Wear is consistent with age and use. Polished and sturdy chairs.. Completely original except for the fabric from the 1950s. The fabric on the side of one seat is a bit damaged.
